Hi! It's Alan
Reed. Thanks a lot for checking out our website.
And THANKS a lot for listening to Quick Country 95-5.
Yup, I'm a local boy. I was raised in the Rochester
area since 'back in the day'. I remember going to Northrup
school in 2nd grade. I had Miss Leslie Stordahl...she
was my first crush. Then she got married and broke my
heart. I can't remember my 3rd grade teacher, but I
remember she was grumpy.
During
my 4th grade year, we moved to Elgin. I had Mrs. Vera
Schwantz. She was one of the nicest teachers ever.
She still remembers me and everytime she sees me, she goes
out of her way to hit me with her cane....really hard.
I think she still has some issues with me.
Then,
the Elgin school burned down (I knew my friend Jimmy shouldn't
have been smoking in the boys room!). Anyway, we ended up
going to school at different places around town. I went
to 5th grade at what is now the Elgin Body Shop. I had
Mrs. Ponto for a teacher. And I don't know why, but one
of my most vivid memories of 5th grade is when Brenda Wehrs
came to school and started crying. Mrs. Ponto asked
her what was wrong and she said that her brother David was
killed in Vietnam. The whole class was silent, but there
wasn't anything I could do. I just remember being so
helpless.
6th
grade was different. I had Mrs. Irma Hermanson.
We went to school at the Elgin Lutheran Church. One
of my memories of that year was going to the spelling bee.
I was the best in the 6th grade!! When I got to the
region finals. I screwed up on the word 'cemetery'. I spelled
it c-e-m-e-t-A-r-y. Don't ask me why I can still remember
that to this day. Everytime I go by a cemetEry, It all
comes back to me. It's weird how you remember the odd
stuff.
Oh well,
I'll write more...
SIncerely,
Alan
