(NEW YORK) -- In a new survey of how social media is changing the way today’s brides handle their walk down the aisle, 59 percent of them say they will update their Facebook status to "married" or update their new name within a day of walking down the aisle. That’s up 11 percent from 2011.
The survey was commissioned by David’s Bridal to mark the March 20 celebration of National Proposal Day.
The survey also finds that 56 percent of newlywed women think it's important to have social media rules at their wedding. Fifty-two percent say the bride and groom must be the first to post a picture of their wedding to a social media site. Sixty-one percent of brides forbid their bridesmaids from uploading pics of the bride donning her dress before the ceremony.
Additional findings from the survey:
The survey was conducted by Wakefield Research between Nov. 16 and Nov. 27, 2012, and involved interviews with 500 women ages 18 and older, who are engaged to be married or were married within the last two months.
