15 things you never knew about Alan Reed!
What's your favorite color? Black. I love black. I wear it a lot and cars look so cool when they’re black.
Where did you grow up? In Alaska, from birth to 1st grade. Rochester, from 2nd grade to 3rd grade. Elgin, from 4th grade to 6th and on a farm between Pine Island, Byron and Mantorville from 7th grade to graduation. I LOVE SE Minnesota and the people here.
What super-power would you most like to have, and why? The cloak of invisibility or X-Ray vision! Tee hee hee! I’d like to fly like Superman, too. Ever notice his hair was never ‘wind blown’? That dude could reverse the polarity of earth to spin backwards and his hair was always perfect.. He never had bugs in his teeth from flying so fast, either. I do 65 mph and my windshield is coated.
If you had $5 million to spend in 5 days, but with the clause that you could not spend any of it on yourself or your family, what would you do with it? Oh man, I’d have fun giving it to total strangers. I’d hang out at Channel One Food Bank and help others. I’m pretty good at reading people and you can usually tell if someone has hardships. I’d hire a crew of people to help me be an anonymous Santa. $5 million buys a lot of toys and food for the needy. That would be so cool.. Making others happy is an amazing feeling and very self-rewarding.
Which is your favorite concert you have ever attended until date? The Rolling Stones in ’81 at the Uni-Dome in Iowa….ZZ Top’s ‘Eliminator’ tour in ’86 and even though he was weird in private life, I saw Michael Jackson at the Met Center once. It was an absolutely amazing show.
What's the worst job you've ever had? I sold cars for 2 months. Hated the job.
What’s the most unusual job you’ve had? I was an explosives technician for 2 years. I helped blow up roads, rock quarries and underground mining projects. There was no room for mistakes, but it was a blast!! HA!
What is your special talent? I’m not a bad artist when I have the time to do art.
What special talent would you like to have? I really wish I was better at computers and ‘Photo Shop’. I plan on taking a class to get better.
If you could BE a famous celebrity of the opposite sex, who would you be? I’d be Marilyn Monroe. Then I’d go shower.
What was one of the most embarrassing things thats ever happened to you? I made some microwave popcorn a couple of days before my daughters wedding. The bag had extra glue on it or something, but I couldn’t easily pull it open. So, I used my teeth to try to open it and steam escaped from the bag and burned my nose. It took a layer of skin off and I looked like ‘Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. Hurt like heck, too! They had to retouch my nose in some of the wedding photos…
What was your favorite toy when you were a kid? I had a bunch of ‘em. I liked the “Rock’Em Sock ‘Em” Robots. I also had an ‘Incredible Edible’ from Mattel. You poured goop into a mold and heated it up. You could eat licorice spiders! It was awesome.
If you have to choose a movie or TV show for your life story, what would that be? I think it’s already taken… The Biggest Loser.
